Our commitment to making the HOPE Programme platform accessible to all

The Enugu State - HOPE Programme is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We are continuously improving the user experience and applying relevant accessibility standards.

1. Our Commitment

We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.

Our accessibility efforts include:

  • Providing text alternatives for non-text content such as images and icons
  • Ensuring sufficient colour contrast between text and backgrounds
  • Supporting keyboard navigation for all interactive elements
  • Using semantic HTML headings and landmarks for screen reader compatibility
  • Providing clear and consistent navigation across all pages
  • Ensuring forms are properly labelled and include error guidance

2. Keyboard Navigation

Our website can be navigated entirely using a keyboard. Key features include:

  • Tab key: Navigate between links, buttons, and form fields in logical order
  • Enter / Space: Activate buttons, links, and interactive elements
  • Arrow keys: Navigate dropdown menus, galleries, and carousels
  • Escape: Close modals, lightboxes, and expanded content
  • A visible focus indicator highlights the currently active element

3. Visual Design & Readability

We have designed our pages for maximum readability:

  • High contrast colour ratios between text and backgrounds (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Responsive layout that adapts to screen size and zoom levels up to 200%
  • Clear, readable font sizing with adequate line spacing
  • Consistent visual hierarchy using headings, subheadings, and body text
  • No content that flashes more than three times per second

  • Datasets are available in multiple formats (CSV, JSON, Excel)
  • Alternative formats can be requested for any document
  • Video content includes captions and transcripts where applicable
